How To Win Free Broadband For A Year At WWW.SAVEANDINVEST.MY

Few days back I saw this website advertised in advertlets. This website claimed that it’is powered by CIMB Bank and the purpose of the website is for users to post tips on how to save and invest, and the highest vote tip by end of December 2008 win free broadband for a year. The price wasn’t that attractive but since I think the website is lousily designed, it makes me doubt that was it really powered by CIMB Bank (2nd largest retail bank in Malaysia), I decided to make a review on the website.

Below is what the website claimed:-

Win FREE broadband for a year

You have to be logged in to do that. Please log in or register now.

Here’s your chance to win a free broadband package worth RM1,675!

Start sharing your tips on Save and Invest and you could win BIG. If your tip proves to be a crowd favourite with the highest amount of votes, you could win free broadband service for the next 12 months!  And that’s not all. This free package comes bundled with a free USB modem which you can use instantly. All this could be yours when the Save and Invest campaign comes to an end on December 31st.

Save and invest is always my favorite topics. Therefore, I immediately registered myself and start posting tips and see what are the feedbacks.

I didn’t get much response in the first few days because the traffic of the website is not high… coz I only see around 6 new posts per week in each category.

Now here is the interesting part. I notice a new user had post a tip with more than 100 view and 50% voted “good” for his comment. I though must be some investment guru giving a post. After I’ve review his post, I find nothing special but some basic tips. I started the think the votes are dodgy.

Do you think this tip worth 220 views, 73 posivite vote in 4 days? I doubt it

Do you think this tip worth 220 views, 73 posivite vote in 4 days? KISS my (_*_)

Immediately I post a tips on how to win free broadband for a year to question on the loop hole of the contest, but subsequently my post was remove by the webmaster in the next day.

Here is what I’ve posted on www.saveandinvest.my with the steps to win free broadband for a year :-

1) Register yourself as a user and start posting tips.

2) After posting tips in each categories (doesn’t matter if you’ve a stupid tip, my steps will win you a free broadband  )

3) START VOTING your own tips by yourself (self-vote). The website will limit you to have 1 vote per tips for each login.

4) Logout your account and login again to vote another time.

5) Repeat step 4 until you’ve the highest vote tip among all by end of December 2008.

6) If they not allow you to claim the damn broadband by then, send lawyer letter to CIMB Bank for their misrepresenting info.

Try it now! It’s x’mas gift from CIMB BANK!

Malaysia Banned Muslim for Practicing Yoga?

I’m not a Yoga practitioner neither a Muslim (obviously), but I’m a Malaysian. I thought Malaysia always “Boleh” but now suddenly “Tak Boleh” practice Yoga. Think we gonna get into genius book record for first country to ban Muslim for Yoga.

I dunno much about Yoga. I always though people practice Yoga to play a better Twister game, so those practitioners can twist and turn their body and limps in unimaginable angle. Since when it connected to religious?

Probably the next thing they will ban Muslim from practice Kamasutra =.=

The Ultimate Guide To Modern Cinderella - For Girls Only

Every girls wish to become Cinderella one day. Now, for those of you who have this big dream and still believe… YES WE CAN. Let me show you the Ultimate Guide To Modern Cinderella… in an evil way  :-
1) Start Up
First, you must package yourself. Since this part is so important and it’s free… I will go a little lengthy. Polish your English… yes… English not Manglish… remember to add some foreign accent whenever you speak as if you’ve stayed in oversea for long period and just came back… (I mean oversea means US, Australia or UK… Not Indonesia, India, China). Act open minded and easy going…(just pretend that you are damn fun). Whenever you in a conversation, must remember to add something like “When I was in UK…
2) Looking for Innitial Investor
Get a boyfriend and dried up his money by buying you LV, Gucci or any bling bling to armed yourself like you are some sort of high society bimbo..
3) Go Public Listed
Once you appear “higher class”, mix with high society folks at wherever those sons-of-rich-dad like to hangout (clubs, party ect.) Hook up with a rich guy and dump the old so-called-bf.
4) The Legacy
Repeat this cycle to dry more losers in order to upgrade yourself until you look more or less like Paris Hilton.
5) Happy Ending
Then get married with a son of a multi-millionaire (Prince Charming) and live happily ever after :D .
Tips
Keep and save your money that you drained from those losers for any unforseen circumstances. Don’t spend everything!!

Michelle Reis: Maco, Thanks for your guidance... I never thought that I did it and I feel so good now!!!

EPF 8% Employee Contribution? Why Not 0% Employee Contribution Instead?!

I read limcorp.net blog today on the topic of the EPF reduce 3% but you gotta pay more tax. Original message was a forwarded mail from god-knows-who, but I manage to get Lim’s quote as below :-

EPF 8% means paying more income tax. For example,
Assume monthly income/ basic salary is RM4000. if you monthly EPF contribution is 11% (RM440) then taxable income will be RM3560, payable income tax will be RM77.

Whereas, if your monthly EPF contribution is 8% (RM320) then taxable income will be RM3680, payable income tax will be RM109. Conclusion, Government will not say thank you for more income tax you pay for it.

2. What the 3% can help us save for future?
Assume monthly income/ basic salary is RM4000 and contribute 8% for your EPF, it means you will get this 3% (Used to be your EPF contribution) along with your salary/ per month. An extra RM120 will be easily spent without your notice

3. Losing 5% annual dividend of your 3% EPF contribution.
A guaranteed annual dividend on your EPF fund will be credited to your EPF account by the last day of year end. The dividend rate is always changing but always better than the Fixed Deposit (FD) at any banks at Malaysia. An example,

Year 2000, dividend is 6.00%
Year 2001, dividend is 5.00%
Year 2002, dividend is 4.25%
Year 2003, dividend is 4.50%
Year 2004, dividend is 4.75%
Year 2005, dividend is 5.00%
Year 2006, dividend is 5.15%
Year 2007, dividend is 5.80%

4. Beside these, EPF has always been safeguarding its original objective that is provide old-age savings for all employees. This is reflected in the latest amendments to the EPF Act 1991 where at least 60% of the total saving of each employee is reserved for his old age while allowing the rest to be used for pre-retirement benefits such as purchasing or building house, reducing housing load and medical expenses.

Source from Limcorp.net

Personally I dun care much about the tax affects my total asset. What I care most is liquidity. There isn’t much money to lose anyway, the best thing if you opt for 8% contribution you can immediately feel your money.

For decades, people are trying various ways to get their EPF money out to buy PC or houses. Nobody want their money sit in this “Government Linked Company Charity Fund” (EPF). I hate it the most when I have no control on my own money and let the government to fool around with it. (You-know-where they spend)

If everyone are financial savvy enough, we dun even need this crap. We are better off to get a life insurance which can give you LONG TERM SAVING + PROTECTION, The EPF is just a waste of time. The only things I enjoy from the EPF system is 12% contribution from the employer, else forget about it. You think you can become rich in 55 year-old with this EPF shit? Most of the malaysian citizen’s EPF will dry out within first 5 years upon withdrawal. What the hell? So you are waiting for your EPF for your retirement?

Sometimes I just dun understand what these people are thinking, when cannot take out their EPF money, they wanna complaint; now ask them to contribution lesser also wanna complaint. What the hell you want? Take it out for better sakes. How many of us got the patient to wait until 55 year old anyway..dang! :P

Morning Call From Sungai Buloh Jail

I was actually on leave today, after last night Juiced HIN drifting session on my PSP.

Around 9am this morning, I received a morning call. I though that was a call from my company. Once I answered that call, I heard a familiar voice, my friend Randi.

(For those who don’t know who is Randi he actually one of my yumcha friend which I used to hangout. A smart guy who has a decent job. A month before I started my blog he suddenly disappeared and the last thing I know was he’s been lockup for suspected criminal case and he claimed that he is innocent. He was not allow to see anyone till the court judge that he is innocent (sound serious :( ). I thought I will lost one yumcha friend forever and at least a long period.)

The first thing he told me with his energetic voice(didn’t sound any depress at all) was he is in Sungai Buloh Jail right now(expected). He is being locked up and going to court on 16th this month. If things goes well he will be release as innocent (sounds optimistic and positive… let’s cross finger). He told me to bank in RM 500 to an anonymous bank account so that those people in the jail can get goods for him. He sent me SMS which bank account No. and reply sms with his name and some sort of reference No to the hp No. after I bank in.

Well, what I wanted to highlight here is not about the my unlucky friends. All the while, we’ve thought that if anyone behind the bar, they are basicly been quarantine in some way and having hard times. But today I realized it didn’t seem to be that way, the only complaint from him is no cigarettes to smoke. (Probably he didn’t have time to tell me all his complaints) but things that really amazed me was he actually have a way to make outbound call from jail!! How could a person in jail call out? not that I heard of 8O .I suspect there are even internal financial or economic system that allow outside world to pump in cash for whoever behind the bar to let them have their internal supermarket swept or trading in the prison. (Is that what we called priconomy?)

Great to know that the jail wasn’t an inhumanity place. Let’s put it this way, Jail is a community for those the lost soul to learn how to better man in future.

I will explore more stories from my friend if I got a chance to see him after 16th December.

Good Luck!

Who Are Your Vital Friends?

We have many friends in our life; some are hi-bye friends, buddies, best friends, we even have 1st, 2nd, 3rd degree friends in social network sites like facebook, Myspace etc., but have you ever heard about vital friends? Not before I read the Book VITAL FRIENDS: The People You Can’t Afford to Live Without, by Tom Rath,

Vital friends are meaningful people in our lives that drive us to achievement. The connection between vital friends and you can often lead you to success.

When I ask people around what the expect from a friend, they often answers are inspiring us, being a companion to us, giving us support, and a dozen other different things. This often expectation is unrealistic, no one friend can meet all our relationship needs.

We need different kind of friends because different people will speak different things into your life, and we need to diversify our friends to have a well-balanced social life.
Let me share with you the top eight roles for vital friends.

BUILDER

Builders are friends who motivate you, invest in your development, and truly want you to succeed — even if it means they’ll go out on a limb for you. These friends help you see your strengths and advise you on how best to use them. They are generous with their time and encourage you to accomplish more. They’ll never compete with you and will always be standing at the finish line to cheer you on.

CHAMPION

Champions stand up for you and your beliefs and they praise you to everyone else they know. They are the friends who “have your back” and will advocate for you when you’re not around to defend yourself. Champions are your strongest supporters who thrive on your accomplishments and happiness.

COLLABORATOR

Collaborators are friends with similar interests, those who share your passion for sports, hobbies, religion, work, politics, food, movies, music, or books. Shared interests are what often make Collaborators lifelong friends and those with whom you are most likely to spend your time.

COMPANION

Companions are always there for you, whatever the circumstances. You share a bound that is virtually unbreakable and when something big happens in your life, good or bad, this is the person you call first. These friends are always giving you meaningful gifts and they will sacrifice for your benefit.

CONNECTOR

Connectors are the bridge builders who help you get what you want. These friends get to know you and then instantly work to connect you with others who will share your interests or goals. They extend your network dramatically and give you access to new resources. If you need a job, a doctor, a friend, or a date, call a Connector.

ENERGIZER

Energizers are fun friends who are always there to boost your spirits and create more positive moments in your life. They pick you up when you’re down and can turn a good day into an even better one. Energizers are those to call on when you need a laugh, a smile, or a bit of relaxation in your day.

MIND OPENER

Mind Openers are the friends who stretch your viewpoint, introduce you to new ideas, opportunities, cultures, and people. They help you to expand your vision and create positive change in your life. These are the friends who challenge conventional wisdom and come up with creative solutions to whatever problems or obstacles you face. They are stimulating and motivating and allow you to express opinions that you might be uncomfortable articulating to others.

NAVIGATOR

Navigators are friends who give advice and direction. You seek them out when you need guidance and counsel — they’re great at talking through your options. Navigators are best at hearing your dreams and goals and then helping you find the path to achieve them.

            Source from Vital Friends

Do you have balance mixture of friends that fit the above role? Having the right expectation of your friends is everything, if your expectations of a friend are in line with what they contribute to your friendship, the relationship can make both of you better off in the process.

Retail Petrol Price Down To RM 2.00

Ever since on 5 June 2008, the retail petrol price was increased from RM 1.92 to RM 2.70. My world had changed overnight, no more travelling, outing and unnecessary social gathering. I was once thought of riding a bicycle and go green while I was pumping my petrol.

After several attempts of the retail petrol price reduction, today the price is back to RM 2.00!! Yuppie! :D I feel like waking up from a nightmare…

However, even the price drops, the exercise no doubt does left behind side effects that indirectly impact our lifestyle, inflation rate rise at all time high. The commodities, retail goods increased their price simultaneously with the retail petrol price spikes, but today we need greater effort to realign back the retail goods’ price.

Since it is all about supply and demand, I will need to earn as much as I can (always do :) ) and control my spending to dry them (retailer) out!! not happy? blame the big boys for their mismanagement. I couldn’t care much as long as I am in good shape.

MacoEu dot com

Finally I’ve got my own website. Hahaha :)
I bought my domain for USD 8.81 / year from Namecheap.com with a discount coupon… It’s really cheap!

Then I got a free web hosting service from www.000webhost.com

They give 1500 MB of disk space and 100 GB data transfer. It’s more than enough for any part time blogger like you and me. There is no any kind of advertising on my pages too, so I think its worth to signup.

Now I’ve got a domain name and web host. The though part is to install Wordpress on my web host.
It’s kinda technical, I downloaded the latest Wordpress software from Wordpress.org. After setting up MySQL database from the web host and configure the wp-config.php file, I uploaded the wordpress software to the public_html folder in my web host account via ftp program. The last step is the run the install.php from my website and Tada!! the installation completed!!

Phew… Though job.
